Where Self-Awareness Meets Meaningful Growth.

Inner Signal was founded on the belief that meaningful growth begins with self-awareness and human connection. Our story is one of bringing emotional insight and strategic clarity together to help people and organizations thrive.

why we started inner signal.

In our work with professionals, small businesses, and organizations, we kept encountering the same issue: people were making changes that brought temporary relief, but the deeper challenges remained. Patterns repeated, decisions stalled, and meaningful progress stayed out of reach.

The problem wasn’t effort or intention. Capable individuals and organizations were struggling because they didn’t have the right support to navigate the practical and emotional realities of their challenges. Professionals found themselves in misaligned work environments, facing communication and leadership challenges, or uncertain about their next steps. Organizations grappled with ongoing team conflict, disengagement, and retention issues.

This was especially true for people doing mission-driven work—across helping professions, creative industries, nonprofits, government, and academia, as well as others seeking meaningful, purpose-driven work but struggling to find the right environment or role. Many felt overwhelmed by workplace stress, disconnected from their work or colleagues, or weighed down by self-doubt. They were looking for ways to improve quality of life at work, make sound career decisions, and collaborate more effectively.

Inner Signal was created to address what was missing. By combining emotional resolution with clear, strategic guidance, we help professionals, small businesses, and organizations break recurring patterns, make grounded decisions, and move forward in ways that are both practical and sustainable.

Our work is for those who think deeply, care deeply, and want a balanced way forward—one that integrates strategic action with emotional awareness, logic with intuition, and professional growth with personal fulfillment.

Who We Are

Akiyo Kodera

With 17 years of experience across higher education, public health, research, and nonprofits, Akiyo has collaborated with professionals and organizations committed to meaningful, purpose-driven work. Over time, she’s seen how misalignment between a person and an organization’s values, culture, and management approaches can limit both effectiveness and fulfillment—and ultimately weaken the impact people hope to create.

Akiyo helps clients gain perspective on the factors shaping how they think, decide, communicate, and show up in their roles and relationships at work. She guides people in understanding their core identity—their strengths, values, and what truly matters to them—while exploring how their history, cultural and family influences, and coping patterns affect decision-making and self-expression. She supports clients in loosening old emotional patterns so they can communicate more effectively, make grounded choices they can stand behind, and engage in their work with greater purpose and impact.

Who We Are

David Newkirk

With 30 years of experience in corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, employee mentoring, and business strategy, David has worked with individuals, teams, and organizations navigating complex, results-driven environments. Across roles in operations, technology, sales, marketing, and client management, he’s seen how individual behavior and decision-making shape how people work together—impacting quality, trust, and progress.

David helps clients recognize and shift counterproductive patterns that are hard to see from within and understand how those patterns affect others. He identifies the deeper connections between individual behavior, team dynamics, and organizational culture—especially where habits, differences, and emotion-driven responses interfere with communication, alignment, and effectiveness. He supports clients in translating insight into grounded action that strengthens how people connect, improves working relationships, and sustains meaningful progress and results.

what makes us different.

We support people and organizations working toward something more honest, more human, and more aligned. Our work blends strategic insight with emotional clarity—so clients can resolve what’s beneath the surface and move forward with purpose.

Inner Signal doesn’t just help clients cope—we help them resolve what’s underneath. While many coaching approaches focus on mindset or surface-level strategies, we go deeper, working at the intersection of emotional clarity and strategic action.

Our work is highly individualized. We don’t rely on personality assessments or cookie-cutter frameworks. Instead, we shape each engagement around the client’s lived experiences, circumstances, values, and goals. We take the full picture into account—personal, professional, and systemic—so progress is not just possible, but sustainable.

As a result, our clients don’t just feel better in the short term. They communicate more clearly, make thoughtful decisions, and engage in work that reflects who they are and what matters most.

our mission

our vision

We partner with purpose-driven professionals, small businesses, and organizations to resolve career and workplace challenges at their root—combining emotional clarity with strategic guidance to support grounded decisions, effective communication, and meaningful, sustainable change.

our approach.

Most people are offered one of two paths: practical strategies or emotional insight. We bring both—because sustainable change requires more than just fixing symptoms or pushing through. It means understanding what’s really driving the challenge, then responding with care and clarity. At Inner Signal, every engagement draws from two integrated strengths.

We help clients develop self-awareness around how past experiences and emotional responses influence how they think, decide, behave, and interact with others at work and in their careers. We also support clients in easing the emotional impact of those experiences so they’re less driven by reactive responses. This allows for clearer thinking, grounded decisions, and more effective interactions as a foundation for constructive action and healthier working relationships.
We help clients turn clarity into practical direction—whether they’re navigating career decisions, managing people, or addressing breakdowns in communication and collaboration. This means identifying where assumptions, behaviors, or structural realities limit progress and making choices that are grounded, realistic, and effective. The focus is on strategies that hold up in real conditions and improve how people work and relate, helping individuals and organizations move forward with confidence and purpose.
